Effective October 1, 2019, childcare centers are required to test all water outlets used for drinking or food preparation. Initial samples shall be collected by the childcare center within one year of the effective date of this Rule (.2816). Non-compliance with this Rule on the initial inspection on/after October 1, 2020 will result in a general comment. Subsequent inspections with non-compliance to this Rule will be assessed 6-demerits. 15A NCAC 18A .2812 CLEANING AND SANITIZING EQUIPMENT AND UTENSILS- No sanitizer solution available during time of inspection. Further discussion determined that the classroom uses disinfectant solution as oppose to sanitizer solution on the work top table were children eat lunch and have snack time. For utensils and equipment which are either too large or impractical to sanitize in a dishwashing machine or dishwashing sink, a spray-on or wipe-on sanitizer of sufficient chemical strength as indicated in Paragraph (b) of this Rule shall be used. Spray-on or wipe-on sanitizers shall be prepared daily and kept on hand for bactericidal treatment.

General Comments
Noted a few sealed medication containers and travel sized laundry detergent containers being re-used for sensory play. Noted containers were completely empty. However, discussed removing items from classroom to avoid the risk of becoming a chemical hazard.
Noted working spray bottle of soapy water missing a label. Discussed ensuring all working containers of chemicals are properly labeled

Disinfecting solution is over 1,00ppm of chlorine in a spray bottle. Disinfecting solution shall be mixed to 1,00ppm during COVID-19 pandemic and between 500-800ppm after pandemic is over. The disinfecting solution was remixed to 1,00ppm of chlorine.

Disinfectant is less than 1,00ppm of chlorine. Mix chlorine at 1,000ppm in the disinfecting spray bottle. The disinfectant was remixed to 1,000ppm during the inspection.

A container of disinfecting wipes was seen in an unlocked cabinet. Educated the staff that disinfecting wipes shall be in a locked storage cabinet. Disinfecting wipes were locked up. Daycare director ordered a water test kit to test lead in water but has not received it yet. No signature of recipient due to COVID-19 pandemic.
